Partner classes assisted by Manu Smith

A Girl Jam is a celebration of the contributions made by women in jazz music and dance. If you’ve ever appreciated anything brought to our scene by a woman, you’ll love this event (yes, even you gents out there!). The San Francisco Girl Jam will highlight incredible instruction, presentations, exercises, routines, performances, and music from many of our local treasures and some special out of town guests. This will be an extremely unique event unlike any other you’ve been to. You won’t want to miss out!
There will be 15 classes on a variety of topics: solo dancing, partner dancing, styling, technique, one on one attention and just general awesome sauce. Yeah, you read that right: awesome sauce.
This event isn’t about gender and dance roles per se. We know lots of women lead and lots of men follow. Some classes will be partner classes and anyone can take them as any role. Some classes will specifically be about following – anyone who wants to work on following can take those classes. And some classes will focus on solo movement so of course anyone can take those.
The point of this event is to show off the incredible wisdom of some of our favorite girls. All of the women contributing to this event have learned tons of great stuff from a lot of male teachers. And we know men can learn great stuff from female teachers. So guys out there – THIS EVENT IS FOR YOU, TOO! No, really! There will be at least one partnered class every hour. Or you could take any solo class. We love the men in our scene, too! Be darn tootin’ sure about that!
So we really hope everyone will join us for this amazing experience - guys, gals, leaders and followers! It’ll definitely be a grand ol’ time!
